Activities for Retirees in Central Florida: Summer in Central Florida is the perfect time for retirees to enjoy outdoor activities and soak up the sunshine! Whether you're looking for some rest and relaxation or want to participate in summer activities, Central Florida has plenty of options. From visiting nearby theme parks and beaches to participating in golf tournaments and concerts, there's something for everyone to enjoy this summer. Here are some of the items on our to-do-list this summer:

'Tis the sea-sun

Hit the Coastal Destinations: Looking to beat the heat and enjoy some sandy shores this summer? Whether you're looking for a quick day trip or a weekend getaway, there are plenty of beaches to choose from within a short drive of our communities.

 

Nokomis Beach, Bradenton Beach, and Tarpon Springs are around 1.5 hours and offer gorgeous white sands and turquoise waters.

 

Longboat Key is another great option at just 1 hour and 45 minutes away, with tranquil beaches and plenty of activities to keep you entertained.

 

For those looking for a more natural experience, Honeymoon Island State Park offers pristine beaches, nature trails, and even a ferry to nearby Caladesi Island.

 

St. Augustine may be a bit of a longer drive at 2 hours and 45 minutes, but it's well worth it for the picturesque beaches and charming historic town.

 

No matter which beach you choose, pack plenty of sunscreen, a good book, and a Publix sub to enjoy a relaxing day in the sun.

Party like it's 1776

Light Up the Night This 4th of July! Retirees in Central Florida looking for a fun-filled patriotic party should definitely add the T.Mims Corp. Red, White & Kaboom 4th of July Celebration to their list of summer activities. The event takes place at Lake Mirror in Lakeland on July 3rd from 6:00 p.m. – 9 p.m., and features live music, food trucks, and family-friendly entertainment. Cap off the night with a breathtaking fireworks display!

 

Another 4th of July option in Lakeland is the Lakeland Flying Tigers' 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular at Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium. Catch the baseball game at 5:00 PM and stick around for live music and fireworks afterward.

 

If you want to venture a little further, consider spending Independence Day at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. The park hosts a 4th of July Celebration with special entertainment, a patriotic firework show, and all the thrilling rides and attractions you could ask for.

 

Whatever your plans, be sure to wear your best red, white, and blue attire and show off your patriotic spirit!

Catch some Rays

Explore Central Florida’s Best Parks and Gardens: If you're a retiree who loves nature, Central Florida has plenty to offer you this summer. Here are some of the top parks and gardens that you should check out:

 

Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales is definitely worth a visit. This garden is known for its unique landmark, the Singing Tower, which features 60 bells that play a concert of soothing melodies throughout the day. The gardens also offer plenty of natural beauty, with walking trails, reflection pools, and plant life. If you're lucky, you may even spot some of the wildlife that calls the garden home, such as birds and butterflies. Bok Tower Gardens regularly hosts events, including yoga classes, guided walks, and concerts.

 

Do you love animals? don't forget to check out Zoo Tampa! This zoo is home to over 1,300 animals and offers plenty of opportunities to get up close and personal with some of your favorite creatures. From feeding giraffes to meeting the zoo's famous koalas, Zoo Tampa has something for everyone. The zoo regularly hosts events, including animal encounters, wine tastings, and seasonal celebrations.

 

Looking to hit the ballpark? The Tampa Bay Rays offers its fans a cool experience at Tropicana Field in St Petersburg, Florida. It is the only stadium in Major League Baseball that is fully enclosed and climate-controlled. There is also an amazing “Rays Touch Experience” where visitors can see and touch live stingrays in the stadium’s 10,000-gallon tank!
